I am always looking to save time in the kitchen, so I have more time with my family, while still being able to provide delicious home-cooked food for them. The crockpot is my answer to all of those things! It even perfectly cooks one of my favorite foods, the sweet and savory sweet potato. It is divine in all forms, whether baked whole, as a sweet dessert/side, or as a savory one like this Slow Cooker Sweet Potato Casserole and Slow Cooker Mashed Sweet Potatoes.

Twice baked sweet potatoes- Cook the potatoes, scoop out the inside and mix with butter and whatever you like, stuff it back into the potato, and then broil in oven.

Make it spicy– Add red chili flakes, jalapenos slices, or even cayenne pepper.

Try different seasonings– Sprinkle Mexican, Cajun, Italian, ranch, Everything Bagel, or Greek seasoning. They can be homemade or store-bought.

Ranch sweet potatoes- Cut the sweet potatoes into cubes or larger chunks and coat them in oil and a ranch seasoning packet.

Make crispy potatoes– Cube potatoes, and once cooked, spread them in a baking tray and broil them in the oven until golden brown.

    Tips And Techniques

Can you put raw sweet potatoes in slow cooker? Yes! Simply wash them and pat them dry first. Then follow the recipe below. They will have plenty of time to cook in the slow cooker and become tender.

Why won't my potatoes cook in the slow cooker? This indicates that either the potatoes were not cooked long enough, or the temperature on the crockpot is too low. Either way, continue cooking the potatoes longer, or turn the heat up higher to finish cooking them.

Why did my potatoes turn brown in the crockpot? This indicates that the skin on your potatoes burned which means they were either cooked too long, or at too high of a temperature.

What size crockpot to use? I recommend a 6 quart crockpot or larger. This also depends on how many potatoes you are cooking and how big they are.

How to know when the potatoes are done cooking? They are ready when a fork can easily pierce through them. They should be soft when pressed with your finger.

Grease the slow cooker- Because this prevents the skins from sticking and burning on the bottom of the crockpot.
