Tips And Techniques For Steamed Baked Potatoes

Can you put raw potatoes in slow cooker? Yes! Simply wash them and pat them dry first. Then follow the recipe below. They will have plenty of time to cook in the slow cooker and become tender.

Do potatoes cook faster with or without foil? Some say yes they cook faster with foil because the aluminum conducts heat and therefore keeps them cooking once they are removed from the crockpot.

Why won't my potatoes cook in the slow cooker? Usually, this means either the potatoes were not cooked long enough, or the temperature on the crockpot is too low. Either way, continue cooking the potatoes longer, or turn the heat up higher to finish cooking them.

Why did my potatoes turn brown in the crockpot? This indicates that the skin on your potatoes burned which means they were either cooked too long, or at too high of a temperature.

Why do you poke holes in potatoes? Do you poke holes in the foil too? Poking holes in the potato skin releases the steam that builds up within the potato ensuring that it does not have a chance of exploding. You do not need to poke holes in the foil too. The foil has enough natural gaps to allow for the steam to escape.

What size crockpot to use? I recommend a 6 quart crockpot or larger. This also depends on how many potatoes you are slow cooking at a time as well as their sizes.

How to know when the potatoes are done cooking? They are ready when they are soft to the touch and easy to slice lengthwise.
