Instructions
Heat butter and oil in a large nonstick pan over medium high heat.
Season both sides of your steaks with paprika, onion powder, steak seasoning, salt and pepper.
Place these steaks in the pan and cook on both sides until golden brown.
Remove from pan and place them in your slow cooker.
In the same pan, add onion, peppers, garlic and saute until onion is translucent and garlic is fragrant.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together water, gravy mix, flour, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar until you have a smooth mixture.
Pour this into the pan of onions and mix until combined.
Transfer this mixture the crockpot too and mix.
Cover and cook on Low heat for 6 hours or High heat 4 hours or until the meat is tender.
Garnish with finely chopped fresh parsley and serve over mashed potatoes.
Notes
At the end, if your gravy is not thickened to your preference, you can cook uncovered on High heat for 20-30 minutes until excess liquid is reduced. You can also transfer the liquid gravy to a nonstick saucepan and cook on medium heat on stovetop until it's thickened to your liking. Then, add it back into the slow cooker over your steaks.
If you don't like sweetness, you can omit the brown sugar altogether.
Gravy mix packets are quite salty. I highly recommend using the low sodium ones to keep the saltiness of this meal in check. Make sure you also using unsalted butter.
Some people like to replace water with low sodium beef broth but I feel like that's too over-powering.
Don't skip on browning the steaks because it develops a nice browned crust and adds a deeper flavor and texture to the overall dish.
